MANILA, Philippines - Miriam College will inaugurate its 8th president, Dr. Rosario Lapus tomorrow, Jan. 28, 5 p.m. at the Marian Auditorium in Katipunan Avenue.
A graduate of Maryknoll High School Class 1958, Dr. Lapus’ personal, educational and career background is deeply rooted in the institution. Her mother, Rosario Adriano-Oreta, was among the first graduates of Maryknoll in Malabon while her aunt, Dr. Paz Adriano, also an alumna, was the school’s first Filipino lay president from 1976 to 1978.
Her deep involvement with the school is best demonstrated by her years at Miriam College where she started as a member of the faculty in 1979, rising to the rank of full professor. She has held key administrative positions, including dean of the Graduate School, chair of the department of Child Development and Education, dean of the College, and vice president for academic affairs and high school principal.
Dr. Lapus completed Bachelor of Arts Major in Foreign Service at Assumption Convent (cum laude); Master’s in Education from Boston College and earned her doctorate in Education at the University of the Philippines where she received a gold medal in academic excellence. She was also a visiting associate at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. In 2009, she completed an MS in Gerontology at the University of Massachusetts in Boston.
