Smart Infoboard prepares schools, students vs bad weather

MANILA, Philippines - Imagine this. The rains are pouring. The streets are flooded. School hotlines are congested. How do parents and students find out if classes have been suspended?

Thanks to the Smart Infoboard, school information and announcements may now be accessed with just a few clicks on the mobile phone. A two-way web-based information system that allows schools to send and receive real-time announcements via SMS broadcasts, the Smart Infoboard has become a preferred information tool of schools all over the Philippines.

To date, the country’s leading wireless services provider has powered up the Infoboard systems of over 100 schools in the country. Smart is targeting to connect more schools to the Smart Infoboard by end of the year.

“Through Smart’s Infoboard service, we hope to empower both the students and employees of our partner schools,” said James Bernas, Smart Wireless consumer department head. “The students and school personnel become more up-to-date on the happenings in their campuses; and more engaged in their respective academic communities because the Infoboard allows them to send feedback as well.”

Aside from news bulletins, the Smart Infoboard is also currently being used by schools to conduct campus surveys. The Infoboard also allows students and their parents to access grades, class schedules and upcoming school events.

Among the schools in the Philippines that have been powered by the Infoboard service are Ateneo De Manila University, University of the Philippines-Los Baños,  MAPUA, University of Baguio, Angeles University Foundation, Holy Angel University, Batangas State University, University of Batangas, Ateneo De Naga, Silliman University, University of Cebu, Ateneo De Cagayan- Xavier University, and Ateneo De Zamboanga.

This rainy season, the Smart Infoboard will be a valuable tool in broadcasting important safety advisories as well as announcements on the suspension of classes to reach parents, students, teachers and other members of the academic community.
