DLSU-D calls for all Lasallians to make a world record

MANILA, Philippines - De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) continues its tradition of celebrating its establishment as an academic institution through the Lasallian Festival 2010 (LSF ’10) themed “A Journey to the Centennial by Remembering the Past”. DLSU-D’s annual event is consistently filled with a potpourri of exciting and must-see events that the Lasallian community will surely enjoy from Jan. 26 to 29.

In the opening of last year’s LSF, DLSU-D gathered thousands of Lasallians together as one to make history and form the very first biggest human Lasallian star.

For LSF ’10, DLSU-D, will once again undertake the feat and make an even bigger and brighter human star on Jan. 26, 6 p.m., where thousands of Lasallian students, administrators, faculty, staff, alumni, and benefactors will once again prove that DLSU-D could work together as one to meet one seemingly impossible goal. This year’s human star would be formed at night where participants would be carrying glow sticks of no other color than green and white. Parohinog also invited officers from Guinness World Records to witness DLSU-D’s attempt for the world’s biggest human Lasallian star.

“I expect that they would be more enthusiastic about this because [we were able to do] it last year when our target was 10,000 and we exceeded that so I expect more participation not only from La Salle-Dasmariñas but from other La Salle institutions as well. We are targetting 12,000 this year so with the same zeal, with the same desire to help more people and to make another…milestone in our Lasallian tradition or history, I think it would spell a lot of difference,” Parohinog enthuses.

The event would not just be about setting a world record and giving tribute to DLSU-D as home of the biggest human Lasallian star. As Parohinog furthers, “we really want to raise more funds for the One La Salle Scholarship Fund campaign.” Registration fee is P100 which includes glow stick, pin, and freebies from event sponsors in which proceeds will go to the scholarship fund. Other events that Lasallians should look forward to during LSF ’10 are the float parade dubbed “Journey to the Star” on Jan. 26, 4 to 6 p.m. and a mini-concert and fireworks display. The Students Admissions Office will also be having an open house from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 26 wherein various feeder schools will be treated to a campus tour.

On Jan. 27, must-see events are symposiums, National Lasallian Congress on the Environment, 8 - 1 p.m.; A Day with the Youth-at-Risk, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Religious Education Department concert, 2 to 5 p.m.

On Jan. 28 are the day-long bloodletting and medical-dental mission outreach activity; faculty recognition night, 6 to 8 p.m.; and a symposium on “Lasallians’ Stand on the Upcoming National Elections”, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On the last day, Jan. 29, Lasallians shouldn’t miss the college day of DLSU-D’s seven colleges, Museo de La Salle and DLSU-D tour, Gourmet Challenge, Cavite-wide 1st Cavite Congress of Student Teachers, and the closing ceremonies of LSF ’10 which will be held at the Ugnayang La Salle, 4 to 6 p.m.
