Blu Girls score shocker in Peru

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Blu Girls pulled off a miraculous seventh-inning effort and eked out a shock 5-4 victory over the World No. 3 Puerto Ricans yesterday in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup-Group Stage campaign in Lima, Peru.
The Cebuana Lhuillier-backed Blu Girls, ranked 13th in the planet, expunged a three-run deficit in the bottom seventh with a magnificent four-run binge punctuated by shortstop Nicole Hammpoude’s walk-off hit that completed the mammoth upset.
The triumph was so massive that the Nationals’ 5-0 defeat at the hands of the Britons in the second of their double-header hours later didn’t dampen Team Phl’s spirits.
“This victory is a testament to the character of our Blu Girls,” said ASAPHIL and Cebuana Lhuillier president Jean Henri Lhuillier. “They never stopped believing, even when they were down in the final inning against one of the best teams in the world.”
