MANILA, Philippines - The education sector is receiving P8.4 billion from the Australian government for a six-year project for addressing basic education problems and supporting the implementation of the K to 12 program.
The project, titled 'Basic Education Sector Transformation' will focus on providing equitable access to basic education and ensuring its quality. The funds will go into the construction of educational facilities, training of teachers and the development of teaching and learning materials.
The Philippine government is tasked to shoulder P1 billion in counterpart funding for the nationwide project, which will focus on Regions 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and Metro Manila.
“We thank the Australian government for their generosity. We will ensure that this intervention will go a long way towards making sure that we develop students who can realize their full potential and contribute meaningfully to building the nation,†Education Secretary Armin Luistro said.
