Cebu Greats blast Pasay for win No.10 in MPBL

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Greats slammed the Pasay Voyagers, 82-72, for their third straight victory in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Season 8 on Tuesday night, June 16, at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
Mark Meneses bagged 19 points with nine rebounds, one assist, one steal, and three blocks while Camillus Altamirano added 11 points, two rebounds, three assists, and a steal for the Greats, who won eight of their last nine games to join Biñan Tatak Gel at third place in South Division standings with similar 10-3 records.
The ageless Cebuano hotshot Dondon Hontiveros chalked up 10 markers with four rebounds and one assist for Cebu, which trailed by three, 10-13, in the early goings.
But the Greats staged a sizzling 15-5 rally to seize command, 25-18, for good at the end of the first period.
Cebu’s lead peaked to 20 points, 54-34, at halftime.
Pasay could only pull within 11 points, 62-73, as the Greats opened the final quarter with a 7-0 blitz to restore a huge 80-62 advantage on a floater by Simon Camacho with 6:34 left to play.
Brian Wendel Hilario and Nico Quinal scored 14 points each to no avail as Pasay fell to 7-6.
Cebu’s next assignment is against the Bulacan Kuyas on June 23 at the Olivarez College Gymnasium in Parañaque City.
