Over 200 properties up for auction
CEBU, Philippines — The Office of the City Treasurer has scheduled the public auction of 206 tax-delinquent real property units on October 30, 2026, as the Cebu City government moves to collect unpaid real property taxes from delinquent owners.
According to a notice from the Office of the City Treasurer, the auction will start at 10 a.m. at the Social Hall on the fourth floor of the legislative building at City Hall.
The properties listed for sale have been issued warrants of levy and are recommended for auction pursuant to Section 260 of Republic Act No. 7160, or the Local Government Code of 1991.
The tax-delinquent properties are located in various parts of the city, including the barangays of Mambaling, Pit-os, Busay, Apas, Kamputhaw, Cogon Central, Kalunasan, Guadalupe, Basak San Nicolas, Quiot, Bulacao, and Inayawan, as well as properties within the South Road Properties area.
Under the notice, interested bidders are advised to conduct ocular inspections of properties they intend to bid on and verify property records with the offices of the Register of Deeds and the City Assessor before the scheduled auction.
The City Treasurer's Office also said that in the absence of qualified bidders, or if the bids submitted fall below the required minimum floor price, the city government may acquire or forfeit the properties to satisfy unpaid tax obligations.
Owners may still prevent the sale of their properties by paying their tax liabilities, including accrued interests, penalties, and costs incurred before or during the auction proceedings.
Even after a property is sold, the original owner retains the right to redeem it within one year from the date of sale upon payment of the required taxes, interests, and other related expenses.
The auction is part of the city's enforcement of local tax collection laws and comes months after officials repeatedly reminded property owners to settle overdue real property taxes to avoid administrative remedies such as levy and public auction.
Cebu City relies on real property tax collections as one of its major sources of locally generated revenue for public services and development programs.
The notice was signed by acting City Treasurer Emma Villarete, who encouraged interested parties to coordinate with the City Treasurer's Office for further information regarding the auction and the listed properties.
For the complete list of properties, the department has published the notice of sale and corresponding list of delinquent real properties scheduled for auction. (CEBU NEWS)
