Mandaue City government set to roll out school kits

CEBU, Philippines — The Mandaue City government is set to distribute “Edukahon,” a box containing school supplies for public school students.

Around 11,100 educational kits will be distributed to Grade 5 and Grade 6 students, while 27,875 kits will be given to Kindergarten and Grades 1 to 4 students.

 In an interview, City Administrator Atty. Gonzalo Malig-on Jr. said the city is targeting early August for the distribution.

 Malig-on said the city has already procured the school supplies adding that these kits would be useful for the students.

 “Mao ang mas needed nila and mao sad ang maabot sa budget,” said Malig-on.

 He added that the Edukahon distribution will become an annual program of the city, with funds to be allocated every year for its implementation.

 Each Edukahon box will contain a school bag, notebooks, pens, pencils, a raincoat, and other basic school supplies.

 Meanwhile, Mayor Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano said the initiative is funded through the city’s Special Education Fund (SEF).

 Ouano said he has already seen the education kits and described them as suitable for students.

 “Kita nako, and nindot siya, excited ko ato,” said Ouano.

 Beneficiaries are expected to receive the Edukahon kits in August, with the delivery of the supplies scheduled for the last week of July. (CEBU NEWS)
