Cebu zaps Bacolod for seventh straight victory in MPBL
CEBU, Philippines — After thrashing the Negros Hacienderos, the Cebu Greats kept their dominance over their Negrense rivals.
Mark Meneses bagged 18 points with eight rebounds, seven assists, two steals and one block as Cebu pummeled the Bacolod Mascarras, 97-67, for their seventh consecutive victory in the SportsPlus Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Season 8 on Thursday, July 9, at the STRIKE Gymnasium in Bacoor, Cavite.
Jun Manzo added 13 points, two rebounds and a steal while Limuel Tampus produced a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds with five assists and a steal for the red-hot Greats, who won all but one of their last 13 games to firm up their hold of the solo second spot in the South Division standings with a 14-3 record.
Ron Dennison chipped in 10 markers for Cebu, which unleashed an explosive second-quarter performance to seize command of the match.
Cebu trailed 20-23 after the first period but flipped the script with a sizzling 26-10 rally to take a 46-33 advantage at halftime.
It was cruise control for Cebu from thereon, with its lead peaking at 35 points, 95-60, on a 3-pointer by
Al Francis Tamsi with 5:20 left to play.
The Greats now gear up for their highly anticipated back-to-back home games against the Biñan Tatak Gel on July 16 at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City and versus the Batang Kankaloo on July 18 at the Cebu Coliseum.
