MANILA, Philippines — Canada came to play – and slay – in Manila.

The Canadians stayed untouched in its Philippine return by silencing Brazil, 26-24, 25-19, 26-24, to beef up its drive for a finale ticket in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) Men’s Week 3 yesterday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Up against the former VNL and three-time world champion, Canada brought out the brooms to notch its third win in as many games here.

Canada, the world No. 10, arrived in Manila with an even slate to show but has now claimed solo fourth at 7-4 with 21 points to stay on track of a triumphant redemption tour.

Eric Loeppky hammered 21 points on 16 hits, two blocks and three aces to show the way for the Canadians, who missed out on the eight-team VNL final round last year at 12th place.

Stephen Timothy Maar and Arthur Szwarc aided Loeppky with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Canadians needed only one hour and 16 minutes to score yet another win after taking care of Japan in five sets and Germany via sweep.

“It’s really coming together for us this week in Manila and we just want to keep getting better,” said Loeppky.

Canada bumped off first-game winner France, which slightly slid to fifth place with 20 points on a 7-3 slate. World No. 6 Brazil slipped to sixth at 6-5.

Jean Patry led the way with 16 points on 13 hits, two blocks and an ace as the French spikers avenged their 23-25, 27-25, 20-25, 23-25 defeat at the hands of Germany the other day by beating Iran, 25-21, 25-17, 25-20.
