Remote control

Things in the political landscape are starting to shape up now that we are getting close to the 2013 elections and barely two months to the filing of certificates of candidacies. Not only are they shaping up, they’re also becoming more and more interesting as true motives are starting to surface.

Our most frightening suspicion was confirmed by Tommy’s statement that he would change the mayor and the governor so that they could do the land swap right away if Mike will not heed the council’s move to revive the land swap deal.

This lends credence to the truism that Tommy wants, borrowing PJ’s depiction, to “remote control” the province and that Davide’s bid to be governor is nothing more than being Tommy’s proxy. This is now clear, in broad daylight, from the puppet master himself.

So if you honestly believe that Davide is running for governor because he has the noblest desire to serve the best interest of the Cebuanos, pardon me, we might just be fooling ourselves. The only interest he will be serving is Tommy’s. But I believe, as Cebuanos, we don’t want a puppet for a governor. The job is just too important and serious to be left to a puppet and his master.

How sad things really are, especially when we are encouraged to hope for a “daang matuwid”. The only consolation we get from this is that we learn, as early as now, the true colors and motives of our politicians.

I hope we keep this lesson until we mark that ballot in 2013, otherwise we will end up, once again, with a government we deserve.
