The Winking Man"

INSANE. “It takes all kinds of people who make ours a strange city,” writes a sociology graduate in the first paragraph of her Masteral thesis. “One meets all kinds of insane people on the streets,” she observes.

Once, she was waiting for the lunch she had ordered in a restaurant when a well-dressed man stood in front of her and kept winking at her. She was about to stand up and leave when she saw the same man standing in front of another restaurant customer and kept winking at her like he did to her. “Buang man ning tawhana,” she thought.

ESCORTED OUT. Later she saw the man being escorted out of the eatery by a security guard. She learned that the man was an herbal medicine agent who got sick in the head after he was kicked out of his job. An Ear informer could not say if it was his dismissal from work that made him a “Winking Man” (the title given to him by those who knew him).
