The strong peso and the minor dollar-earning Pinoys

PESO STRENGTH. When the dollar fell against the peso $1 to P41.925 last week, there was rejoicing in the government. The peso has gotten strong. But some wives of OFWs received the news differently. They did not rejoice. They wanted the dollar to remain strong against the peso so they would get more peso bills from every dollar they receive from their OFW husbands.

ONE WIFE’S REACTION. One Ear informer said he overhead an OFW wife grumbling after exchanging her dollars to pesos: “Niadto mag-awas-awas og manggatos kining akong pitaka. Dihang milig-on ang peso tali sa dolyar mihiyos ang akoang pitaka.” Apparently, minor dollar earners do not know the implication of the rising peso.
