Why not answer TV reporters in Visayan?

INSISTING ON TAGALOG. Most, if not all, Visayans and Mindanaoans interviewed by TV reporters make an effort to speak Tagalog even if, according to an observer, “their Tagalog is so broken they sound funny.” A Visayan writer said: “Why not make things easy for them by speaking Visayan in answering TV reporters’ questions? Nganong lisudlisuron man gyud ang dila?”

NOT THEIR DUTY. This Visayan writer said, “It is not the obligation of the person interviewed to be understood by the televiewers.” He said: “It is the duty of the TV reporters to make the answer of their interviewees understood by the listeners. They are paid for that.” Oh, well, call that TV Interview 101.
