DANGGIT. A Cebuano resident of Manila came home for the Fiesta Señor and Sinulog festival. He intended to bring back to Manila a large amount of “unsalted” danggit dried fish for pasalubong to his Tagalog neighbors in the Big City. The dried fish vendor had assured him that the danggit was unsalted. “OK no problem,” the buyer said.
PROBLEM. But there was a problem. On arrival in Manila he distributed the pasalubong. “Tikman nyo ang walang asin na danggit,” he told his neighbors. “Proud kaayo ko,” the Cebuano said. “Pero, Jesusmaria, Bay, grabeng parata. Parat pa sa asin, Bay.”
