Galleon Andalucia not a replica of Magellan's ship

AT PIER ONE. Cebu is now abuzz about its new visitor on our shore, a replica of a Spanish Galleon named “Galleon Andalucia”, giving Cebuanos a glimpse of history. Spanish Galleons are huge cargo ships used in the Galleon Trading that sailed the Pacific Ocean in the 17th century.

AN EARFUL OF HISTORY. Politicians, historians, diplomats, as well as cultural kibitzers climbed onboard. The media were there too, to cover the event. When a TV reporter yesterday stated that the Galleon Andalucia is a replica of the ship of Magellan, a history buff felt the need to cut her off to give her a history. He told the reporter, “This is not the replica of Magellan’s ship. The Galleon Trade happened more than a hundred years after Magellan died.”
