Just letting us know where our taxes went

Someone texted me: “Have you ever heard of Customs and BIR personnel asking for salary raise?” I texted back: “No, I haven’t. Why?”

* * *

They say that Cebu is feeling the pinch of the brain drain. Our brains (intellectuals) going down the drain?

* * *

Some friends continue to send me invitations to some fun runs. Thank you but can’t run, can’t even walk across the street to see my boss.

* * *

I like the page one (Phil Star) cartoon of Rene Aranda last Monday. It was about ban on BIR men from receiving gifts. Rene put it this way: A BIR official slapping his forehead saying: “Why are we in BIR for?”

* * *

Says the headline: “Manila Prosecutor Sacked for Extortion.” Let’s have more headlines like this. Then we’d know that the drive called “Kung walang kurap walang mahirap” is working.

Vice Guvnor Greg Sanchez was reported in the Cebuano-language newspapers as saying: “Gikuyawan ko dihang gipasigaan ko’s mata ni Gwen.” That’s only to make you see the light, Greg.

* * *

Greg wasn’t off tangent when he said Gwen’s stare scared him. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said: “An eye can threaten like a loaded and levelled gun, or it can insult like hissing and kicking.”

* * *

 But then again Emerson also said that the eye “in its altered mood, by beams of kindness, it can make the heart dance for joy.” Maybe it was “the beams of kindness” that the Guvnor gave to her Vice.

President P.Noy has made known his dislike against the use of his name and picture on government projects. This is what makes him, in one way, different from Madame Gloria.

* * *

During the reign of Madame Gloria even the asphalting of a small hole on the road had a billboard announcing that it’s her project. Oh, well, taxpayers always demand to be told where their taxes are going, don’t they?
