HERE COMES THE RAIN. The rainy season has officially arrived with sudden heavy rain and thunderstorms Sunday night but the city government has yet to clean up the esteros of the city. The Ear has received and printed the various requests from readers urging the city government to clean up the drainage system before the rainy season arrives. Until this writing, the city government has yet to act on these requests. A local businessman in the downtown area said, “Naabot na ang ting-uwan. Unsa pa may gipaabot sa gobyerno? Maghuwat pa sila’g baha?”
REACTION NOT ACTION. Another reader, a college professor, said that the government has always preferred “reaction to preventive action”. He explained that it has always been his observation that the city government does not do anything to prevent disaster but opts to react when disaster has already struck. He said, “Take for example the flooding. Every year, mahitabo man gyud ning baha, pero makita ba nimo ang gobyerno, nga mo-aksyon para ma-prevent ang flooding? Wala gyud. Anha na sila molihok inig abot sa baha. By then, too late na.”
