Villanueva hopeful for passage of 'ending endo bill'

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Joel Villanueva, chairman of the Senate Committee on Labor, Employment and Human Resources Development, said Monday he is hopeful that the Senate would pass a measure ending illegal contractualization in the country amid a call by President Rodrigo Duterte in his third State of the Nation Address.
The president made the call after he admitted that the executive order he signed on Labor Day this year to protect Filipino workers' rights to security of tenure failed to "satisfy all sectors" as the said power is not vested in him by the Constitution.
Villanueva said Duterte's remarks are only "practical" and urged his fellow lawmakers to focus on finally agreeing to a law which would end contractualization.
