Speaker lauds Quezon City barangays

MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City’s “strong village system” under Mayor Joy Belmonte has been lauded by Speaker Faustino Dy III.

At Monday’s 31st Quezon City Barangay Day celebration, Dy praised the local government for recognizing outstanding barangays.

Drawing from his own experience as former barangay captain in Cauayan, Isabela, Dy said village officials occupy a unique place in government since they are closest to the people.

Barangay officials are often the first public servants residents turn to whenever they encounter problems, Dy noted.

“The job of a village chief, along with other barangay officials, is not easy. And I know for a fact that each of the barangays – the 142 who are here now – have all their individual stories to tell,” he said.

Dy assured barangay leaders that the House of Representatives would continue working with them to strengthen local governance and improve the delivery of services to communities.
