MANILA, Philippines — Amid rising fuel prices, a one-month fuel subsidy of P20 per liter and an interim fare increase have been discussed by President Marcos’ economic team, Malacañang said yesterday.

For now, the P10-per-liter fuel subsidy for public utility vehicles has been extended until the end of August, Palace press officer Claire Castro said.

Around P4.5 billion is required for the proposed fuel subsidy of P20 per liter, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Chairman Vigor Mendoza II said earlier.

Meanwhile, Castro appealed to transport groups planning strikes next week to reconsider.

“What the government seeks is dialogue and negotiation to understand grievances. Holding a transport rally is not the appropriate response or solution to these issues as such actions will only make things more difficult for our commuters,” Castro said.
