Five armed men nabbed

CEBU, Philippines — Five individuals were arrested in separate police operations conducted across Cebu City in the early hours of Friday, July 31, after authorities allegedly recovered unlicensed firearms and ammunition from them.

According to the Cebu City Police Office, the arrests stemmed from separate law enforcement operations carried out by the Parian, Carbon, and Guadalupe Police Stations, along with the City Intelligence Unit.

All five suspects are set to face charges for the alleged violation of Republic Act No. 10591, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

One of the arrests was made by the Guadalupe Police Station after officers responded to a report of an allegedly armed individual in Barangay Guadalupe.

During the operation, police allegedly recovered a homemade 9mm revolver loaded with one live round from the suspect.

Meanwhile, two other suspects were separately arrested by personnel of the Carbon Police Station in Barangays Pahina Central and Kalubihan.

The operations were conducted as part of the Simultaneous Anti-Criminality Law Enforcement Operations following reports of allegedly armed individuals in the area.

Authorities said each of the two suspects was allegedly found carrying a .22 cal. revolver loaded with one live round.

In a separate operation, operatives from the CCPO’s City Intelligence Unit apprehended another suspect in Sitio Caimitohan, Barangay Sapangdaku. Police alleged that the individual was in possession of a 9mm revolver loaded with three live rounds.

Another suspect was also arrested by personnel of the Parian Police Station during the conduct of Oplan Bulabog in Barangay Lorega San Miguel. Police said the operation resulted in the confiscation of a .38 cal. revolver with two live rounds from the suspect.

As of yesterday, all five suspects remained under the custody of their respective police stations while investigators completed the necessary documentation for the filing of the appropriate charges against them in court. — (FREEMAN)
