STAR’s Single/Single launches 2nd season

MANILA, Philippines - The second season of “Single/Single” premieres on May 15, Sunday at 10 p.m. on Cinema One, with replays on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9 p.m. In partnership with The Philippine STAR, Cinema One’s first-ever TV series comes back with a new season revolving around the theme “how to adult.”

The award-winning series is written by Palanca winner Lilit Reyes, directed by internationally recognized filmmaker Pepe Diokno and produced by Bianca Balbuena, who recently joined the prestigious Berlinale Talents panel. The first season of Single/Single received awards from Anvil and Quill for its financial literacy advocacy for millennials.

Veering away from the mainstream teleserye format, main stars Matteo Guidicelli (as Joey) and Shaina Magdayao (as Joee) said during the Single/Single press conference yesterday that they very much enjoy doing the series because of its different and “fresher” take on millennial issues and financial decisions.

“Watching the series, you would feel it’s not preachy,” started Reyes. “It has taken on a very entertaining note. There’s comedy, sometimes drama. Aside from wealth management, Single/Single 2 will also touch on how one balances his/her professional and personal life. It’s not preachy but rather relatable,” he imparted.

Single/Single is a product of two traditional media platforms bridging to meet a certain need of the audience, in this case, financial literacy, millennial issues and individualism.

“Expanding our content is following where our readers are,” begins PhilSTAR SVP for Sales and Marketing Lucien Dy Tioco.

“The Philippine STAR has been featuring a lot of columns informing our readers on how to manage their finances. During the course of our project, we figured it must extend to the millennials. The newspaper having a more mature market, we felt that we should reach out to other platforms. And it would be best to do this advocacy in a storytelling format. We want it to be relevant to the millennials, that’s why we partnered with Cinema One for this project,” he added.

After each Single/Single episode, wealth management expert and motivational speaker Francis Kong provides practical advice on “how to adult” in The Philippine STAR’s Business Lifestyle section.

Also, Single/Single 2 episodes will be available after a week of airing date on philstartv.com. The entire Single/Single season one episodes will also be available on the website starting May 1.

Single/Single is sponsored by SunLife, Avida, Metrobank, McDonald’s, KremTop and Ford. The show is also supported by Fernwood Gardens and Our Home.
