Hero dog off to US

MANILA, Philippines - Kabang, the hero dog that saved the lives of two girls in Zamboanga last December, left last night for the University of California Davis (UC Davis) Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital to undergo maxillofacial surgery.

Team Kabang spokesperson Mona Consunji of the Animal Welfare Coalition (AWC) said the hero dog boarded Philippine Airlines flight PR 102 scheduled to leave at 10 p.m., accompanied by veterinarian Anton Mari Lim.

Kabang, an aspin (stray dog), saved two girls from being hit by a motorcycle, resulting in injuries to her upper jaw, nose and face.

Prior to her departure, a motorcade was held for Kabang from Makati, where she was presented in a press conference, to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2.

In Los Angeles, Lim and Kabang will be welcomed by Team Kabang-USA led by Karen Kenngott of the AWC-USA, Michael Foley of the Global Animal Transport (GAT) and representatives of the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).
