4 EDSA busway operators probed for overcharging

Motorists pass through the southbound lane of EDSA, which has been temporarily opened to private vehicles, alongside concrete barriers in Mandaluyong City on November 3, 2026.

MANILA, Philippines — Four bus companies operating along the EDSA busway are under investigation for alleged overcharging, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon said yesterday.

Dizon said the DOTr has summoned the bus companies to a meeting this week.

“If it is proven that they all indeed overcharged, the drivers and conductors will be removed. The bus companies will face suspension,” Dizon told reporters.

He said the same penalties would apply to all public utility vehicles nationwide.

“It’s not just the EDSA busway. Nationwide, whenever there’s a report of overcharging, I’m implementing a one-strike policy,” Dizon said.

The DOTr-Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board were conducting an investigation to address the matter, he said.

Meanwhile, the upgraded EDSA busway Guadalupe station opened yesterday with wider platforms, more available seats, tactile paving, LED information screen and a big covered waiting area for passengers.
