MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has approved the promotion of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant Vice Admiral Rommel Supangan to the rank of admiral.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon presided over the donning and oath-taking ceremony yesterday.
Marcos approved the promotion of Supangan as recommended by former transport chief Giovanni Lopez, who swapped post with Dizon in the Department of Public Works and Highways.
Supangan replaced PCG chief Ronnie Gil Gavan, who retired on Oct. 19 after three years in the post.
The PCG said Supangan would continue to lead the PCG in fulfilling its mandates on maritime security, law enforcement, search and rescue as well as marine environmental protection.
