‘Probe college dean for animal cruelty’
ANGELES CITY, Philippines — After a video showing a school official beating a dog inside a college campus here, 1st District Rep. Carmelo Lazatin Jr. ordered the city police to investigate and file charges within 72 hours.
“I have said this many times before, and I reiterate: there is no room in a civilized society for this kind of senseless violence toward a helpless animal,” Lazatin said.
“Even if the dog is a stray and accidentally wandered inside school premises, it is not reason enough to inflict violence on the poor animal. We are human beings; therefore, we have been granted logic and reason. We should exercise utmost patience and humanity when dealing with an animal that lacks the same level of thinking,” he added.
Lazatin’s directive stemmed from a video posted online on Oct. 5 that showed a college dean beating up a dog that strayed inside the campus. The dog was also stuffed inside an empty water drum to suffocate.
