LTFRB summons taxi operator over littering video

Josiah Antonio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has summoned a taxi company after its driver was recorded on video throwing trash on the road.

The LTFRB issued a show-cause order to the Green and Smart Mobility Philippines Inc.

Acting LTFRB Chairman Greg Pua Jr. said the taxi operator may be held liable for employing a driver who lacks road courtesy and discipline.

In the video, the driver of a taxi with plate number NIZ-4758 was seen throwing trash outside the car during a traffic jam in one of busy roads in Metro Manila.

The taxi company was asked to explain in writing why its authority to operate should not be suspended or canceled.

“Roads are not trash sites. As responsible car owners, we should have at least small trash cans inside our cars,” Pua said.

The hearing is set on Oct. 21.

The LTFRB urged public utility vehicle operators to make sure that the drivers they would hire would comply with the rules not only for road safety, but also for proper waste disposal.
