Stringent security in place at San Juan schools

MANILA, Philippines — San Juan is stepping up security in its schools after two Grade 7 students received a shooting threat online on Friday, the city government said.
Police are coordinating with the San Juan Integrated School, where the students are enrolled, and the affected families in identifying the people behind the threat.
San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora said the threat was made through a dummy Instagram account.
“Please be assured that this matter is being treated seriously. Security measures are already in place,” Zamora said in a statement.
Even before the incident, Zamora had approved the procurement of walkthrough metal detectors and handheld metal detectors for the city’s 13 public schools.
The city is also enforcing stricter entry protocols and ID checks, increasing police visibility and holding more emergency response drills to prevent serious incidents in schools.
“We will not wait for a threat to become a tragedy before we act,” Zamora said.
