Ex-village chief slain in Batangas gun attack

Emeterio Awitan, 66, former chairman of Barangay Bañadero, was traveling in the nearby village of Talaga on a motorcycle when he was killed at past 5 p.m.

BATANGAS, Philippines — A former barangay chairman was killed in an attack by unidentified motorcycle-riding men in Tanauan, Batangas on Friday afternoon.

Emeterio Awitan, 66, former chairman of Barangay Bañadero, was traveling in the nearby village of Talaga on a motorcycle when he was killed at past 5 p.m.

Awitan suffered four gunshots to the chest and died at the scene of the attack, probers said.

Police have yet to determine the motive for the killing and identify suspects.
