Leptospirosis cases at San Lazaro Hospital drop
MANILA, Philippines — The San Lazaro Hospital (SLH) in Manila has recorded a sustained drop in leptospirosis-related admissions.
Data from Aug. 17 to Sept. 28 showed that 829 leptospirosis patients were admitted in the hospital.
Daily admissions reached a peak of 50 cases on Aug. 26, followed by an overall downward trend in the succeeding weeks, the hospital management said.
“Recent trend showed generally decreasing admissions for leptospirosis from Sept. 3 to 28 compared with the peak period, with occasional fluctuations,” the SLH said.
The hospital had recorded 41 deaths due to leptospirosis as of Sept. 28.
Despite the drop in hospital admissions, the SLH emphasized that leptospirosis surveillance and preparedness remain essential.
“Continued monitoring is important during heavy rains and flooding when the risk of leptospirosis may increase,” the hospital management said.
