Tejero fire victims get rice aid

CEBU, Philippines — More than 200 fire victims in sitio Silangan Dos, Barangay Tejero, Cebu City received rice assistance from members of the International Fraternal Order of Eagles, led by International President Atty. Orlando Salatandre Jr., on Tuesday.

The beneficiaries were among those affected by a fire that hit the area on May 16, 2026.

The rice distribution was part of the humanitarian activities of the Eagles, which focus on providing food and other assistance to less privileged communities and families affected by disasters.

Salatandre said the organization conducts similar activities in different parts of the country depending on the needs of communities and the availability of supplies.

“The Eagles focused on feeding or giving goods, especially to the less privileged. That is what we are doing here,” Salatandre said.

He said the group has distributed rice and other assistance in various areas, including Mandaue City, Bicol, and Manila, as well as communities in the Visayas and Mindanao.

The organization also responds to specific needs, including assistance to fire victims, he said.

Salatandre said the current activity was sponsored by the Eagles’ Visayas region, with members and supporters helping provide the assistance.

He said the organization also receives support from friends and other groups whenever humanitarian assistance is needed.

Salatandre emphasized that even small contributions can make a difference when combined with the efforts of many people.

The International Fraternal Order of Eagles is composed of clubs in the Philippines and abroad. Salatandre said the organization currently has regions in Manila, Bicol, Visayas, and Mindanao, as well as an incorporator from the Netherlands and a club in the United States.

The fire victims who received the rice assistance thanked the Eagles for their generosity and support.

Salatandre said the group will continue extending assistance whenever the need arises and resources are available. — (FREEMAN)
