Las Piñas schools suspend F2F classes for 5 days

MANILA, Philippines — Face-to-face classes at the Las Piñas National High School and Las Piñas National Senior High School Diego Cera campus will be suspended today until Aug. 7.

The class suspensions were issued following a stabbing incident that led to the death of a Grade 9 student.

In a Facebook page yesterday, the schools’ principal Ignacio Son Jr. said Las Piñas Mayor April Aguilar-Nery ordered the class suspensions.

In-person classes will be suspended this week to help promote mental health and psychosocial well-being of students and the academic community, according to Son.

Classes will shift to to asynchronous learning.

Face-to-face classes will resume on Aug. 10.

Meanwhile, National Capital Region Police Office spokesperson Maj. Hazel Asilo said the NCRPO is working with school authorities to enhance safety measures, including reinforcing police assistance desks near schools.

She said the Southern Police District is preparing the documents needed to file charges against the 14-year-old student who fatally stabbed the 13-year-old victim.

According to initial police investigation, the altercation started after the victim allegedly failed to return P10 in change after being asked to buy bottled water for the suspect.

Asilo clarified that police officers are deployed outside the school premises.

She said police may enter campuses if requested by school authorities or when necessary. — Mark Ernest Villeza
