Debris warning out over China rocket launch
MANILA, Philippines — A debris warning has been issued in connection with the launch of a rocket by the government of China.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said that China will launch a Jielong-3 rocket between 10:29 to 11:04 a.m. on Wednesday.
The PCG said that debris from the rocket is expected to fall in the waters off Northern Luzon.
Data from the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) showed that portions of the rocket may fall in the waters off Babuyan Island or Santa Ana in Cagayan.
“While the risk to Philippine territory remains low, vessels have been advised to steer clear of the drop zones during the launch window,” the PCG said.
Residents have been told to report any sighting of suspected rocket debris to the nearest PCG station.
The public has been advised not to touch or retrieve the debris as this may contain toxic chemicals.
The PCG said the dissemination of safety advisories is being coordinated with PhilSA and other government agencies.
