MANILA, Philippines — Smuggled cigarettes seized in separate police operations were destroyed yesterday in Santa Maria, Bulacan.

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) said the destruction of the contraband valued at P430 million was done in coordination with key government agencies and officials of the Port of Subic.

The illegal cigarettes were destroyed at the Legacy 88 Recyclable Materials Collection Services, based on an official declaration of abandonment as provided under the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

The abandoned cigarettes were first fed into a shredder before these were placed in an incinerator for torching.
