Negros Occidental board member probed over e-cockfight

BACOLOD CITY , Philippines — A member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan in Negros Occidental is facing investigation in connection with an illegal online cockfight operation in E.B. Magalona.
Board member Andrew Montelibano was identified as a person of interest in the illegal e-sabong operation in Barangay Alicante.
Police discovered the illegal activity during a manhunt for a wanted person in Hacienda Pilar on Wednesday.
Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño, acting chief of the Negros Island Region police, gave assurance that the investigation would be fair.
Montelibano has denied involvement in the illegal activity and assured authorities that he would cooperate in the investigation.
Four suspects were arrested during a raid on what police described as an e-sabong studio equipped with LED walls, computers and other electronic equipment for online broadcasting.
The raiding team recovered steel gaffs, live fighting cocks and gamefowl carcasses.
Montelibano admitted that he is a part-owner of the Little Sword Development Corp., which owns the fishpond property where the e-sabong studio was found.
He said he has not been involved in the operation of the fishpond for about 20 years now.
