MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has appointed Director Efren Nemeno as the new chief of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

Marcos designated Nemeno as BJMP chief following the retirement of Director Ruel Rivera.
Nemeno leads over 26,000 BJMP officers and personnel in securing 118,000 inmates. He will serve until June 2027.
Remulla challenged Nemeno to lead the BJMP with integrity and earn the respect of fellow officers and personnel.
Nemeno previously served as Cebu City jail warden and headed other BJMP regional offices.
Prior to his appointment, Nemeno was the BJMP’s deputy chief for operations.
He vowed to fight corruption in the BJMP.
He emphasized a renewed commitment to the BJMP’s mandate of providing secure, highly humane and reformation-oriented jail facilities for inmates.
