Controversial Amores gets second wind in PBA career with Titan Ultra

MANILA, Philippines — It seems John Amores has another shot in the PBA.
The controversial Amores has signed a new deal with the Titan Ultra Giant Risers, the team announced Wednesday evening.
His return to the hardcourt came less than two years after his professional playing license was revoked, following a shooting incident in Laguna back in 2024.
Back in September 2024, Amores was involved in a shooting incident after a local basketball game in Laguna. He and his brother were later slapped with attempted homicide charges.
“A NEW CHAPTER STARTS NOW. Welcome back to the PBA, John Amores,” the team posted on social media.
“Welcome to the Titan Ultra Giant Risers family. Let’s get to work.”
Reports earlier said that Amores was trying out to be part of the Giant Risers.
On Wednesday, the shooting guard reposted a video of himself at the Games and Amusement Board, where he seemingly got his license back.
Following the shooting incident, Amores and his brother were released after posting bail.
Back in October of 2024, he was suspended without pay from the PBA “for conduct detrimental to the league.”
But the Laguna shooting was not the first time the guard was embroiled in controversy.
Amores was previously indefinitely banned by the NCAA during his time with the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers when he went on a punching spree against the College of Saint Benilde Blazers in 2022.
A year later, he was selected with the 51st overall pick in the 2023 PBA Draft by the NorthPort Batang Pier.
