Nartatez backs Marantan’s term extension

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. is backing a recommendation to extend Brig. Gen. Hansel Marantan’s term as Calabarzon police director for one year.
“I have signed a resolution prepared by the National Police Commission (Napolcom) recommending that he will be extended,” Nartatez told Camp Crame reporters.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla wrote to the Napolcom, a collegial body which he chairs, requesting for a one-year extension of Marantan’s tour of duty.
Marantan will reach the mandatory retirement age of 56 on July 10.
Nartatez said the recommendation on Marantan’s possible extension is up for discussion by concerned government officials.
As Calabarzon police director, Marantan has supervision over police forces in Remulla’s home province of Cavite as well as Laguna, Batangas, Quezon and Rizal.
Marantan is among 12 police officers acquitted by a Manila court over the Atimonan shooting, which left 13 people dead in 2013.
