Minor eruptions logged in Taal

MANILA, Philippines — A series of minor phreatomagmatic eruptions was recorded at Taal Volcano in Batangas yesterday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs said the eruptions occurred between 7:13 and 7:17 a.m., generating ash and steam plumes that rose 450 meters above the crater.
Another eruption was recorded at 2:34 p.m., lasting 4.5 minutes based on seismic, infrasound and visual observations.
“The event consisted of three pulses that produced jets of dark gray ash and steam-rich plumes that rose 1,200 meters above the crater before drifting southwest,” Phivolcs said.
Taal Volcano has been under Alert Level 1 or low-level unrest since July 2022.
Entry into the Taal Volcano Island, particularly at the main crater and Daang Kastila fissures is prohibited, state volcanologists said.
Tourism activities like boat-riding in Taal Lake and flying an aircraft close to the volcano are not allowed due to risks posed by possible sudden eruptions, earthquakes, ashfall and gas emissions.
