DepEd streamlines lesson plan guidelines

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) has introduced a simplified and flexible lesson planning framework allowing teachers to focus less on paperwork.
DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara said the new guidelines on lesson planning and learning design are part of the agency’s ongoing reforms.
It eliminates the strict distinction between detailed lesson plans and daily lesson logs and adopts a unified approach that emphasizes instructional thinking, learner needs and effective classroom teaching.
“Teachers should not be spending so much time writing long lesson plans. What is important is that the lessons’ goals are clear: teachers are prepared and students are learning inside their classrooms,” Angara said.
Under the guidelines, teachers and alternative learning system implementers will no longer be required to include components beyond those prescribed in the framework.
The policy allows the responsible use of artificial intelligence for grammar checking and formatting, although the DepEd stressed that AI cannot replace a teacher’s judgment in setting learning objectives, designing learning experiences and validating AI-assisted content before using it in class.
Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police has vowed to sustain security and traffic management operations in schools with the resumption of classes in private educational institutions.
