Crane collapses at Mindoro bridge project; worker killed

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A worker died when a crane at an ongoing bridge project in Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro collapsed on Tuesday afternoon.

The 61-year-old worker died while being rushed to the Abra de Ilog Community Hospital, according to Brig. Gen. Christopher dela Cruz, Mimaropa police director.

Investigation showed the crane was lifting a concrete girder when it collapsed and struck the victim at around 4:30 p.m.

The crane operator was placed under police custody while probers determine the cause of the accident.

The victim’s relatives were reportedly not interested in pursuing a case, provided the company will extend financial support and shoulder the burial expenses of the victim.
