MANILA, Philippines — To financially support Marikina students ahead of the opening of classes on June 8, the city government has opened its annual back-to-school shoe bazaar where they can buy affordable yet quality footwear.

Mayor Marjorie Ann Teodoro and her husband, 1st District Rep. Marcelino Teodoro, led the opening of the bazaar in the Marikina Freedom Park.

Organized by the Philippine Footwear Federation Inc., the bazaar features shoes, bags and leather goods from 39 local manufacturers.

Known as the country’s shoe capital, Marikina has been recognized for its shoemaking industry, which has provided livelihood to thousands of workers and manufacturers.

Teodoro said the bazaar is part of the city’s efforts to support local footwear and leathercraft manufacturers while making school essentials more accessible to consumers.

She urged residents to support the city’s shoemakers and workers by buying their products.

The bazaar ends on June 21.
