4 dead, 7 hurt in road accidents

INFANTA, Quezon, Philippines — An elderly couple died after a cargo truck loaded with animal feeds crashed into their house along Marilaque Highway in Infanta, Quezon yesterday.
Police said Antonio, 74, and his 70-year-old wife Dominga were pinned under the truck, which rammed their house in Purok Antipolo in Barangay Gumian.
The truck helpers denied that the driver fell asleep. They told investigators that one of the tires blew out as they were negotiating the sloping road.
Mayor Lord Arnel Ruanto deployed a boom truck to help emergency responders remove the cargo vehicle and retrieve the couple.
In Mangaldan, Pangasinan, an 83-year-old woman died after being hit by an overtaking car along the national road in Barangay Guiguilonen on Sunday.
The Pangasinan police said emergency responders rushed the victim to the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City where she was declared dead on arrival.
The 59-year-old car driver was brought to the Mapandan Community Hospital for physical and medical examination prior to detention.
In Nueva Ecija, a businessman died after a trailer truck rammed his house after hitting a bus along Maharlika Highway in Barangay Tayabo in San Jose City on Sunday.
Seven bus passengers were injured and taken to San Jose City Hospital for treatment.
According to police, truck driver Felipe Lustre lost control of the steering wheel after hitting the bus.
