ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Narcotics agents arrested a member of the Philippine National Police (PNP) for possession of two kilos of shabu, valued at P13.6 million, during a sting in this city over the weekend.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said S/Sgt. Nager Indal Abdulbasir, who is assigned with a PNP unit in Basilan, handed over two Chinese-labeled tea packs during the operation in Barangay Sta. Maria.

Authorities seized his Glock17 service gun, two magazines, 42 bullets, wallet, PNP identification card, cellphone and motorcycle.

Abdulbasir told investigators that he was not aware of what the package contained.

He claimed he was just requested to hand it over to a supposed contact in the premises of a restaurant along Bagong Dalan Street.

Governor Mujiv Hataman urged Basilan residents to avoid maligning Abdulbasir’s police unit.

“One wrong act of a policeman like him – done by him alone, a personal violation of a state law – is not an act of the unit where he belongs. Personally, I believe there are scalawags in every organization,” Hataman said.

Meanwhile, the PDEA in Central Luzon arrested a “bulk peddler” of shabu during a drug sting at a mall parking lot in Taguig City.

The PDEA said the suspect, identified only as Bimbo, handed over 200 grams of shabu worth P1.3 million to agents on Saturday.

It added that Bimbo operates in Bulacan and Metro Manila.
