Firing of US Typhon missile during Balikatan hit

TACLOBAN , Philippines — Militant group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) Eastern Visayas chapter has condemned the firing of a US Typhon mid-range capability missile system during the Philippines-US Balikatan Exercises.
The group said the firing of the missile toward Laur, Nueva Ecija posed risks for the Philippines being dragged into US-led wars, violated national sovereignty and endangered Filipino communities.
Bayan said the war games disrupted livelihood in Eastern Visayas, noting that fisherfolk in Tacloban and Palo in Leyte have been barred from sailing in San Pedro Bay for at least a week.
“Instead of providing security, Balikatan brought fear, hunger and uncertainty to Eastern Visayas,” the group said.
