DOH: No Pinoy infected with hantavirus

MANILA, Philippines — None of the 38 Filipino crewmen on a quarantined cruise ship in Cabo Verde is exhibiting symptoms of hantavirus, according to the Department of Health (DOH).
“Based on the World Health Organization (WHO) and International Health Regulations, there are no reported illnesses among the passengers and crew so far,” DOH spokesperson Albert Domingo said on Tuesday.
Hantavirus is a rare disease typically transmitted through exposure to rodent urine or droppings from infected mice.
“In the Philippines, we have no recorded cases,” Domingo said.
Symptoms include fever, gastrointestinal illness, pneumonia and severe respiratory distress, the WHO said.
