MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) will impose a three-strike policy against police commanders for failure to address “gas-and-run” incidents.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. issued the warning yesterday after another such incident in Quezon City.

Police have launched a manhunt for a driver of a blue sedan who fled without paying P1,500 worth of fuel at a gasoline station in Barangay Bahay Toro at 3:16 a.m. on Sunday.

After the pump attendant closed the fuel tank, the suspect drove off toward Mindanao Avenue.

PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuano said a first incident should serve as a warning to police commanders to shape up and intensify security measures in their areas of jurisdiction.

Police recorded two gas-and-run cases in Barangays Payatas and Apolonio Samson in Quezon City. Another incident was reported in Bacolod City.
