BALANGA CITY, Philippines — A solar and wind-powered modular cold storage facility was turned over to the municipal government of Dinalupihan, Bataan on Thursday, to improve post-harvest systems.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) said the P14.63-million facility was constructed in November 2025 and completed early this month.

Designed as a containerized modular cold storage system, the facility is capable of storing nine to 10 metric tons of farm produce and has a storage volume capacity of 67 to 76 cubic meters.

The facility can accommodate various kinds of commodities and is equipped with temperature-controlled chambers suitable for vegetables, fruits and other high-value crops, the DA said.

Beyond storage efficiency, the facility minimizes post-harvest losses caused by spoilage, moisture loss and deterioration.

It enables farmers to implement proper post-harvest handling practices, maintain product quality and extend the shelf life of their produce.
