CAAP deploys new rescue, firefighting vehicles

MANILA, Philippines — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines has deployed new aircraft rescue and firefighting or ARFF vehicles to eight regional airports, marking a significant step in CAAP’s ongoing modernization of airport emergency response capabilities.

In a statement, CAAP said the US-made Oshkosh Striker 6x6 fire trucks arrived at Laoag International Airport on Saturday and at Puerto Princesa International Airport on Friday.

The other ARFF vehicles are due for delivery to the Butuan, Siargao, Busuanga and Tacloban airports as well as the Bicol and General Santos International Airports.

According to CAAP, the newly deployed units would enhance the airports’ emergency response capabilities and operational readiness.

Each ARFF vehicle is equipped with advanced firefighting systems, including a 12,500-liter water tank, 1,750 liters of aqueous film forming foam and 250 kilos of dry chemical powder.

The vehicles are expected to ensure a rapid, efficient and effective response to aviation-related emergencies.

The procurement of 46 ARFF units is part of the airport modernization plan, with 16 units scheduled for delivery this year.

The initiative is part of the initial phase of CAAP’s ARFF modernization program, which aims to upgrade the country’s firefighting and rescue fleet, following directives of President Marcos and Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez.
